Restoration Documentation - part 2.

New parts
Suspensions

Front suspension. For the best possible driving and curve-stability features of the car we applied a curve stabiliser stronger than the factory-made and sport springs seated as 1”. With the factory-made chunk-support and the seating of 1” the 15”, G60 tyres fill up the mud-guard arching with a uniform gap. In the undercarriage with the exception of the supporting rod and the chunk stand all the elements were replaced.

Rear suspension and rear end. The renovation of the rear section covered every element in the undercarriage and the bridge. For the better driving stability we used rear curve stabiliser, stronger shock absorbers and seating of 1”.

Brake system

The system without the obsolete factory-made drum-brake and aiding was replaced with the new disc-brake manufactured by the SSBC. The front brake is the true replica of the 4-piston, fire-based 10.5”, cooled-disc one that appeared optionally in 1967 in the Ford palette and the Shelby cars. The rear corners got the new aluminium-saddle 9.75”, cooled disc set. Their drive is provided by the big 4-disc main cylinder brake with the aiding drum and sized for moving the 6 pistons. Every brake tube was replaced with new steel tubes, the bonds were turned of steel.

Steering

We renovated all the steering elements as well as replaced them. The steer, the servo cylinder, the control valve, the entire steering column were taken apart and renovated one by one.

Fuel system

In the gas-supplying system all the elements, from the tank cap to the carburettor were replaced with new ones or renovated. A new steel fuel lines, new tank and level-sender unit, new fuel pump, filters, etc. were built in. The factory-made two-barrel carburettor was replaced by another factory-made two-barrel Ford made one with higher cfm capacity that was renovated, its house was pearl-blasted, the steel elements were galvanised and the jets were tuned to the engine’s increased performance. The accelerating pedal and the rod link units were renovated or replaced.

Engine

The engine of 289ci that has made 18 000 miles has also been renovated in full being justified by the several decades of not being used and the weak factory specification. It was another point of view that all the parts of the cars renovated by us – including the engine – are always renovated and assembled with our own stitching and surface-treatment technology.

The factory-made engine block was bored and honed to the next oversize. We applied our special piston-to-bore clearances, applicable to increased street performance with pistons on the factory-made rods within 1 gram to increased compression. The timing was moved with a Ford Performance camshaft so that besides a smooth idle we obtain the best performance which is around 260HP/330lb-ft (439Nm). The cylinder heads were replaced to HiPo heads corresponding to the year enabling a higher compression and higher rpm range. The cylinder heads were altered into modern valve steam seals format both for the in and ex valves – in order to have a better emission level of hazardous material. During the renovation we built in new valves, pistons, lifting rods, camshaft, hydro-chunks, rings, bearings, chain, chain-cover, valve-springs, oil-pumps, water-pump, renovated distribution tower, generator, self ignition and several other parts.

Surface treatment. The exterior of our engines and their durability are considered as important as the technical contents. We think that the carefully elaborated details form the perfect impression. Regarding the surface treatment of our engines we apply carefully chosen materials and we apply the masking technique used for the varnishing with which we exclude the possibility of letting the least contamination into the engine.

Transmission

The C4 automatic got a full renovation with a B&M set, including the galvanisation of its external parts as well as the pearl blasting of the aluminium house.

Upholstery
Assembling

During the assembling all the car parts are renovated one by one. The various technical units consist of the renovated original parts and the new ones brought from America. During the restoration and all the renovation phases we take into consideration the manufacturer’s documentation, adding our own experience and the technological instructions of the applied modern materials. During the assembling we assure the long-.term corrosion-protection, through the protection of the bonds, until the careful placing of the wadding and hollow treatment.

Exhaust system. We built in a new factory-made 289ci, H-pipe, HiPo one-drum system. The scenery is provided by the double, chromed HiPo endings.

Wheels. For the elegant sporting appearance we chose Torq Thrust D alloy wheels in a size of 15” that were demanded sport accessories in the car’s earlier times. The authentic appearance was made complete with the specific Good Year Polyglas tyres of the sixties – remade with modern technology.
